I think about the cyclical nature of existence (getting very existential now) a lot, and there is something about my grandmother’s hands, who have been through so much and are capable of so much creation and teaching, decorated with bangles and a ring she wears everyday- peeling a potato. A historically significant vegetable, and a favourite to many (myself included)- its versatility and persistence, ability to grow and diversify across cultures always amazes me, and yet there is something so humble about the vegetable. I love appreciating individual ingredients, and to me this picture is just that: the intentional appreciation for the simplest of things. A grandmother peeling a potato. An image that can be replicated throughout time, across cultures and worlds- just. like. food.
